From the creation of CashPoints to building a loyalty program with over 10 million members, see the story of Reward and our journey to help you get even more from flying Norwegian.

2007

CashPoints were born

Our journey began by setting up and introducing Norwegian's very own currency, CashPoints. At first, CashPoints were only available in Norway and the way to earn them was by paying for items with Norwegian's credit card.

2009

Program open to everyone

Norwegian's free loyalty program officially opened and Reward began offering memberships.

2011

Launch of the Norwegian Reward site

We created our first website – available in Norwegian only at that time – and began to enlist our more partners, including the popular Norwegian mobile phone company, Talkmore.

1 million members

Our loyalty program took off at a great speed and soon we reached our first major milestone of a million members. Over time we made the program available in more languages and in more countries.

Launch of the Reward eShop

We continued adding more partners to our sites and set up our own online shopping portal, the Reward eShop, so members could earn CashPoints in everyday life, not only while travelling.

2015

Rewards introduced

Soon it was time to give our members access to even more exciting features, and we launched our frequent flyer benefits called 'Rewards'.

Norwegian gift cards available

The same year, we also began giving everyone the chance to give the gift of travel, with the introduction of Norwegian CashPoint gift cards.

2016

Reached 5 million members

In 2016, we hit another milestone and celebrated reaching 5 million members with one of our exciting competitions, giving members the chance to win a dream trip.

Over 30 partners

By this time, we also had more than 30 different partnerships across a range of industries, from hotels and car rentals to energy contracts and insurance, meaning even more opportunities for members to earn CashPoints.

1st Freddie Award

In 2016 we won our first Freddie Award for Best Up-and-Coming Loyalty Program, Europe & Africa. The Freddies are like 'The Oscars' of the travel loyalty industry, and mean a lot to us as it's the members who vote for the best programs.

2017

Launch of Reward Family

The very next year we released another new feature: the Family Account. Members could now pool all their CashPoints with their family and friends and spend them on their next trip together.

More Freddie Awards!

The Reward Blog

In late 2017 we launched the Norwegian Reward Blog, which offers travel tips and inspiration, destination guides, and info on how to maximise your CashPoint earnings.

Christmas Countdown takes the win

Every year since 2013 we run a big advent calendar-style campaign, whereby Reward members can play daily games, win thousands of CashPoints, enjoy special partner offers and get discounts on flights. In 2018, our festive promo bagged us the Freddie for Best Campaign, Europe & Africa.

10 million members

2019 not only saw us win three more awards, including the Freddie for Program of the Year, Europe & Africa for the third consecutive year, but we also reached a whopping 10 million members!

2020

Record-breaking win

Despite turbulent times during the COVID-19 pandemic when the majority of Norwegian’s aircraft were grounded, we managed to pick up four Freddie Awards – a new record for the program. We also helped members by offering CashPoints as travel credit for cancelled flights and extending the expiration and validation period for Rewards.

2021

Successful reconstruction process

Norwegian successfully exited the reconstruction process, and with it our loyalty program got back to normal, with Rewards extension continuing until the end of 2022.

Two big birthdays

Norwegian turns 20 years old, and Norwegian Reward turns 15 years old, celebrating making it possible for everyone to fly with affordable fares and smart solutions.

More choice

We updated Reward and introduced a new benefit for every eight flights. At the same time, we also gave our members access to more benefits, like free overhead cabin baggage, and more freedom of choice.

Norwegian Reward Priority

In spring 2023, we introduced Norwegian Reward Priority for all customers who took 32 or more flights during a 12-month period. These customers then got access to all the benefits of the program, as well as exclusive benefits reserved for our most frequent flyers.

New Freddie Awards!

After a couple of years away from the Oscars of travel loyalty, Norwegian Reward came back strongly in the 2023 ceremony. We took home a total of three awards from Washington D.C., including the biggest of them all: “Airline Program of the Year – Europe & Africa".
